Who can take part
- Ages 12 to 50 if you have Friedreich’s ataxia (or 12 to 30 for healthy comparison people)
- Have a confirmed diagnosis of Friedreich’s ataxia (for the FRDA group)
- Be able to have an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) showing ejection fraction over 35%
- No signs of heart failure and no moderate-to-severe heart rhythm problems
- Be able to get a heart MRI with contrast (or can manage claustrophobia)
- Not be pregnant (and avoid diabetes: type 1 or type 2)
