Brain imaging study for stroke patients with severe carotid narrowing

PET/MRStroke Ischemic

Part of Brain & nervous system, Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This study uses advanced PET/MRI scans to measure blood flow and sugar use in the brain. It is for people who have had a stroke or mini-stroke in the past year due to a severely narrowed carotid artery.

Who can take part

  • You have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA) in the last year, but not in the last 3 weeks.
  • An angiogram shows that one of your main neck arteries (carotid) is more than 70% blocked.
  • You have not had a fresh stroke seen on an MRI scan.
  • You can have an MRI without metal implants, claustrophobia, or other issues.
  • You do not have other brain diseases like Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, or epilepsy.

Brain imaging study for stroke patients with artery narrowing

This research tests a new type of brain scan (called sigma radiopharmaceutical FBFP) to help doctors understand blood flow problems after a stroke or mini-stroke caused by a narrowed artery in the neck. The scan may help predict recovery and guide treatment.

PET/MR imaging for carotid artery plaque risk

This trial uses special PET/MR scans to look at fatty buildup in your neck arteries to see which ones might be dangerous. It could help doctors better understand your stroke risk and choose the right treatment.

Study of treatment planning after carotid artery narrowing

This study looks at an approach to better plan treatment for people with significant narrowing of the carotid artery (the main artery to the brain). It may help doctors choose safer, more effective care after surgery.

NCT05539781Recruiting
Blood flow and brain function monitoring after carotid procedure

This trial studies how blood flow and brain function change after a carotid artery revascularization procedure (opening a narrowed carotid artery). It may help doctors understand what to expect after treatment, especially in people with significant artery narrowing.

NCT06452173Enrolling by invitation
Risk prediction for stroke in carotid artery narrowing

This study uses MRI scans to build a risk prediction model for stroke and other cerebrovascular events in people with carotid artery stenosis (narrowing of the neck arteries). By participating, you help doctors better understand who is at highest risk, which may lead to more personalized treatment.

Ultrasound study for severe neck artery narrowing before stenting

This study is for people who have severe narrowing (stenosis) in one of the main neck arteries that supply blood to the brain. It tests how well ultrasound can diagnose this narrowing by comparing it with more detailed scans done before a stent procedure.
