Who can take part
- You are an adult (over 18) admitted to the ICU for severe blunt or penetrating trauma
- Your injury is severe (Injury Severity Score over 15)
- You are on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) and are expected to need it for more than 48 hours
- You have signed consent through a relative (because the patient may not be able to consent)
- You have an arterial line (an indwelling arterial catheter)
