Inhaled medication to prevent lung failure after severe trauma

Who can take part

  • You are an adult (over 18) admitted to the ICU for severe blunt or penetrating trauma
  • Your injury is severe (Injury Severity Score over 15)
  • You are on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) and are expected to need it for more than 48 hours
  • You have signed consent through a relative (because the patient may not be able to consent)
  • You have an arterial line (an indwelling arterial catheter)
