Who can take part

  • Be age 21 to 70, and you must not be pregnant
  • Have major depression diagnosed in adulthood that has lasted a long time (or keeps coming back)
  • Have tried at least four different depression treatments without enough improvement
  • Have significant symptoms right now and measurable severity scores before surgery
  • Have a normal recent brain MRI (within 3 months) and be able to get MRIs
  • Be healthy enough for brain surgery and avoid certain implants or bleeding risks
