Who can take part
- You have a diagnosis of major depression or bipolar disorder that has lasted for at least 2 years or has come back many times (4 or more episodes).
- Your depression is severe and hasn't gotten better after trying several different antidepressants, ECT (electroshock therapy), and talk therapy.
- You are between 18 and 65 years old.
- You are willing to have a stable medication routine for at least 6 weeks before the study starts.
- You are not currently pregnant or planning pregnancy, and you don't have metal implants or conditions that would make surgery unsafe.
