Who can take part

  • Age 25 to 70, and you can sign consent papers
  • Your main diagnosis is major depressive disorder without psychosis, and you are in a current depressive episode
  • Your depression symptoms have lasted at least 2 years, or you’ve had more than 3 lifetime episodes
  • Your depression severity scores must be high enough (Hamilton Depression Rating Scale), and daily functioning must be limited (score 50 or less)
  • Your depression must be “treatment-resistant,” meaning you failed at least 4 adequate antidepressant or approved treatment trials during this episode
  • You must be able to follow study and device care instructions
