This trial looks at whether weight-loss (bariatric) surgery helps people with fatty liver disease, including “NASH,” and related liver scarring. If you have obesity and a confirmed liver fat diagnosis (and for NASH, biopsy-proven NASH with some fibrosis), the study may follow your outcomes after surgery.

Who can take part

  • You’re age 16 to 65, any sex.
  • You have obesity (based on Asian body-weight standards) and are planning your first bariatric surgery at the study hospital.
  • Your liver fat problem is confirmed before surgery by imaging (ultrasound or MRI fat measurements) or by liver tissue taken during surgery.
  • For the “NASH” part: you have biopsy-proven NASH with early scarring (at least stage F1 fibrosis).
  • You have not had bariatric surgery before.
  • You can understand the study and are willing to sign consent.
