Who can take part
- You are scheduled for mitral valve surgery that uses a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass).
- Your pre-surgery ultrasound suggests severe pulmonary hypertension (estimated mean lung artery pressure 55 or higher).
- Surgery must not be an emergency or a repeat surgery (re-do).
- Your heart’s pumping strength should not be severely reduced (left ejection fraction must be 30% or higher).
- You should not have kidney or liver disease severe enough to rule you out.
- You should not have bleeding/clotting problems or blood clot disease that is being treated with blood thinners.
