Who can take part
- Be age 18 or older and sign informed consent to join the study
- Have diabetes (type 1 or type 2) for at least 1 year, and keep your diabetes medicines the same for the last 3 months
- Have painful diabetic nerve damage in your legs/feet, with at least numbness or tingling (or related nerve pain) plus nerve-related exam findings
- Have moderate to severe pain: LANSS score of 12 or higher and a 0–10 pain score of 4 or higher, with enough diary entries (at least 4 of 7 days)
- Have recent blood sugar control that fits the study (HbA1c 11% or lower)
