Who can take part

  • You have a stroke caused by a large blood-vessel clot in the front part of the brain (a terminal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery M1–M2 area).
  • Your care team has already decided you are a candidate for mechanical clot removal (thrombectomy) using general anesthesia (sleep medicine).
  • You are not an active smoker.
  • You do not have long-term breathing failure that requires oxygen while walking around.
  • You are not intubated (a breathing tube) before the procedure; you are able to proceed with the planned anesthesia plan.
