This study compares a special type of cholesterol in the blood (HDL) between people with depression and people without depression. Researchers want to understand how depression may be linked to differences in HDL and related blood markers.

Who can take part
- You can give informed consent (agree to take part after understanding the study)
- You are an adult with moderate to severe depression (Hamilton HDRS-17 score 18 or higher)
- Your depression must be either a first episode or recurrent with at least 3 episodes
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- You do not have diabetes (type 1 or type 2), metabolic syndrome, or major medical conditions that affect metabolism
- You do not have certain mental health conditions or substances (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, persistent delusional disorder, autism spectrum disorder, or moderate-to-severe alcohol use disorder)
