Who can take part

  • You can give informed consent (agree to take part after understanding the study)
  • You are an adult with moderate to severe depression (Hamilton HDRS-17 score 18 or higher)
  • Your depression must be either a first episode or recurrent with at least 3 episodes
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You do not have diabetes (type 1 or type 2), metabolic syndrome, or major medical conditions that affect metabolism
  • You do not have certain mental health conditions or substances (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, persistent delusional disorder, autism spectrum disorder, or moderate-to-severe alcohol use disorder)
