Cyclosporine then low-dose immune therapy for new type 1 diabetes

Who can take part

  • You are between 16 and 45 years old (must be fully developed—Tanner stage 5).
  • You were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within the last 3 months and have at least one diabetes autoantibody (like GAD, IA-2, or ZnT8).
  • You cannot have diabetic ketoacidosis (“acid ketosis”) or have lost more than 10% of body weight (or you must meet a specific C-peptide level after starting insulin).
  • Your blood, liver, kidney, thyroid tests, and other basic safety tests must be normal enough to join.
  • You must not have certain heart problems (and you need a normal ECG), and you must not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You cannot have specific infections (like HIV, hepatitis B/C, or high EBV/CMV levels), cancer within the last 5 years, major immune/organ contraindications, or recent use of diabetes drugs other than insulin for over 3 months.

Study of immune-modulating drugs for new-onset type 1 diabetes
