Study of nerve signals during facial pain procedures

Trigeminal Neuralgia

This study measures nerve activity (electrical signals in nerves) in people who have trigeminal neuralgia and are getting a common facial pain procedure. It may help researchers better understand the condition and improve future treatments.

Who can take part

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • You must be scheduled for a percutaneous rhizotomy for facial pain (if you’re joining the trigeminal neuralgia group)
  • Your facial pain must be clearly trigeminal neuralgia (not an unclear cause)
  • The rhizotomy must not be canceled
  • For healthy control participation: you must not have any history of facial pain, migraine, or long-term pain conditions
  • You must be willing to spend about 2 hours in a lab and not have new/ongoing acute pain
