Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for an elective or urgent heart operation: CABG (bypass), aortic valve replacement, or both together (CABG+AVR).
  • Your surgery will use a heart-lung machine (a blood circulation machine) and will not involve stopping circulation.
  • Your operation is not labeled as emergency or “salvage” surgery.
  • You do not need major aortic surgery such as replacing the aortic root.
  • You can consent to the study, and you are willing/able to receive necessary blood products if needed.
