Who can take part

  • You are age 18 to 80, and you can be of any sex.
  • A CT scan confirmed the bleed within 24 hours of symptom onset (or last-known good time).
  • The bleed is in a “deep” part of the brain (like the internal/external capsule or putamen) and the bleed size is at least 25 mL.
  • The bleed must be stable on repeat CT scans, with a plan to re-scan if it enlarges.
  • You need to be in the right time window: randomization is within 24 hours after the first CT, and surgery (if assigned) happens within 6 hours after randomization (up to 54 hours after onset).
  • Your prior functioning was good (modified Rankin Scale 0–1) and your blood pressure is controlled to 180 or less.
