Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 85 years old
  • Have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation on an ECG (a-fib comes and goes)
  • Come to the emergency department within 48 hours of a-fib starting, or within 48 hours to 7 days if you’ve been on blood thinners for at least 30 days
  • Have coronary artery disease but no residual ischemia (not ongoing blockage causing reduced blood flow)
  • Have heart pumping strength (ejection fraction) above 35% and be able to sign consent
