This Phase 2 trial tests whether stem cells placed into the heart artery can safely reduce symptoms in people with “refractory” angina (chest pain) despite maximum heart-healthy medication. You may qualify if your chest pain is limiting your activity and other heart procedures (stents/bypass) aren’t possible or are too risky.

Who can take part

  • Be age 18 or older
  • Have ongoing chest pain from blocked heart arteries for at least 90 days despite max heart medications
  • Have tried at least two types of anti-angina medicines at the highest tolerated doses for 2+ months and keep the plan steady for 12 months after randomization
  • Have no good option for stent or bypass surgery, or your doctors say you’re too high-risk for it
  • Have proof of reduced blood flow to the heart that can be triggered during a stress test (or by medication), and your treadmill test can last 2–8 minutes
  • Have heart pumping strength (left ventricle ejection fraction) of at least 30% within the last 12 months, and be able to consent and attend follow-ups
