Who can take part

  • You’re an outpatient (not currently hospitalized) and generally stable
  • You’re age 16 to 65 and have an intellectual disability diagnosis
  • You’ve been taking an antipsychotic at a stable dose for at least 3 months
  • Your weight is in a higher range (BMI 30+), or BMI 27+ with a related problem (like high blood pressure or sleep apnea), or BMI 25+ if you gained 5%+ weight after starting the antipsychotic
  • You must have no major health issues that make metformin unsafe (for example serious heart/lung/kidney problems, certain acid build-ups, or major recent events)
