Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are on a breathing machine and doctors expect you’ll need it for at least 48 hours
  • The ICU team has started a continuous pain/sedation medicine through an IV
  • Your medical team thinks you may be able to come off the breathing machine soon
  • You are not being treated with medicines that fully paralyze muscles (neuromuscular blocking agents)
  • You do not have an allergy to midazolam, lorazepam, and/or propofol
