Who can take part
- You must be an adult (18 or older) in the intensive care unit.
- You must have ARDS (a severe lung condition that makes it hard to breathe).
- You must be on a breathing machine (ventilator) and still able to breathe on your own with support (PSV mode) for less than 48 hours.
- You must be receiving sedative drugs through an IV (like propofol or midazolam) and likely need sedation for another day.
- You cannot have a personal or family history of malignant hyperthermia (a severe reaction to anesthesia), or have high pressure in the brain.
