Who can take part
- Your baby was born at 35 weeks or later and weighs at least 1,800 g (about 4 lb).
- The delivery or first hour suggests low oxygen or stress (for example, very low blood pH, very abnormal blood gas, very low Apgar score, or needing breathing support at 10 minutes).
- The baby shows moderate or severe brain illness signs in the first 30–60 minutes after birth (for example, very sleepy with weak movement, or stupor/coma).
- An EEG or brain-wiring test (aEEG/EEG) at first may show concerning patterns for at least 30 minutes, or the baby has seizures.
- Doctors must be able to start the cooling treatment within 6 hours of birth, and you must give consent.
