Who can take part

  • You have ALS that your doctors describe as “probable” or “certain,” affecting the spinal, swallowing (bulbar), or breathing (respiratory) areas
  • Your peak flow is between 160 and 255 liters per minute (a lung breathing-number test)
  • You did not get much help from MIE breathing sessions in the past year (fewer than 10 sessions total)
  • You can use the MIE machine and do the breathing/collection steps, or a caregiver can help you
  • You have a physiotherapist working with you at least 2 times per week
  • You are able to understand the study and complete questionnaires in French
