Study for early RBD as a possible Parkinson’s risk
Part of Brain & nervous system, Mental health clinical trials.
This study looks at people with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), confirmed by a sleep test, who may be in the early “prodromal” stage before Parkinson’s or related diseases. It also enrolls healthy controls to compare results from brain and body testing to better understand who is at risk.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are over 18 years old.
- If you’re in the RBD group: your RBD must be confirmed by an overnight sleep study using ICSD-3 criteria.
- You can provide informed consent (agree to join after understanding the study).
- If you’re in the control group: you must not have a history of dream-enactment behaviors that suggest RBD.
- If you’re in the control group: you must be willing to do all testing, including brain MRI and a spinal fluid test (lumbar puncture).

This trial tests whether adalimumab, an immune system drug, helps people with REM sleep behavior disorder (a condition that may warn of Parkinson's disease) stay healthy longer. Participants will receive injections of the drug or a placebo to see if it prevents Parkinson's-related brain problems.
This study uses MRI scans to look at the brain in people with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD), a condition that can be an early sign of Parkinson's disease. By comparing them with healthy volunteers, researchers hope to find early markers of Parkinson's that could lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment.
This study collects blood and related samples to create a “biobank” and uses lab tests to study genetic risk in Parkinson’s disease and idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD). It may help researchers understand why symptoms develop and improve future prevention or treatment approaches.
This study looks at sleep problems in people with Parkinson's disease, people with REM sleep behavior disorder (a condition that causes acting out dreams), and healthy volunteers. The goal is to understand how sleep is affected in early and full Parkinson's disease.
This study enrolls people with idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder, a sleep problem that can come before Parkinson’s disease or related conditions. It aims to better understand early (“prodromal”) changes so future treatments can be targeted earlier.
This study looks at people diagnosed with idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (a sleep problem where you act out dreams) and tries to predict who may later develop another condition related to Parkinson’s. If you qualify and consent, you may be followed to understand risk factors and improve early identification.
