Who can take part

  • Be 18 to under 80 years old
  • Have an acute non-bleeding ischemic stroke confirmed by tests, with NIH Stroke Scale score 6 or higher
  • Start of stroke symptoms must be within 16 hours before the clot-removal procedure begins
  • Plan for the clot-removal (mechanical thrombectomy) to use general anesthesia and a ventilator
  • CT scan and other brain imaging must show the right pattern (a minimum score on head CT, and enough “at-risk” brain tissue on CT perfusion)
