Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with moderate to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) using updated medical guidelines.
  • You are not allergic to inhaled nitric oxide.
  • You do not have a rare blood disorder called congenital methemoglobinemia.
  • You do not have end-stage chronic lung disease (such as lung cancer or a past lung transplant).
  • You are not in shock requiring high-dose blood pressure medications for more than 6 hours when treatment starts.
