Who can take part
- You are currently hospitalized for a heart transplant surgery (not a planned earlier procedure)
- Your kidneys do not require a machine to do kidney-filtering (renal replacement therapy) right at the time of transplant
- You do not need a heart-lung machine called ECMO before or immediately after the transplant
- There are not severe major complications right around the surgery
- This is not a combined transplant (for example, heart plus kidney or heart plus lungs)
- Your blood sodium level is not high (Na is below 145)
- Your blood sodium level is not severely low (Na is above 120)
