Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 85 years old
  • You are in the ICU and recently put on a breathing tube (within 48 hours), with confirmed ARDS
  • You can give consent or your next of kin can
  • Your back, chest, and leg/arm anatomy allows safe stimulation, and the breathing muscles can respond to nerve testing
  • You do not have devices like pacemakers/defibrillators or implanted neurostimulators
