Who can take part
- Be an adult (age 18 or older) with newly diagnosed GBM (brain tumor grade 4) confirmed by pathology after surgery
- After surgery, the tumor must be IDH-wildtype and MGMT gene testing must show either low (hypomethylation) or high (hypermethylation) methylation
- Have a good enough day-to-day function after surgery (Karnofsky Performance Status above 60) and expected survival of at least 6 months
- Have kidney function strong enough for metformin (creatinine clearance 60 mL/min or higher) and no serious liver problems based on exam/tests
- Not have diabetes, not be taking metformin or other “biguanide” medicines, and not have allergies/intolerance to metformin
- For pregnancy risk: if applicable, have a negative pregnancy test and agree to effective birth control during treatment and for 4 weeks after the last dose; avoid pregnancy or breastfeeding
