Adding local treatment to drug therapy for stage IV lung cancer

This trial compares continuing drug therapy alone versus adding local treatments (surgery or radiation) for people with stage IV lung cancer that has responded to initial treatment but still has a few remaining spots (oligometastatic). The goal is to see if targeting those spots with local therapy helps control the cancer longer.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older
  • You have stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (confirmed by biopsy) and have not had treatment yet
  • You are able to carry out most daily activities (ECOG score 0 or 1)
  • After 3 months of standard drug treatment (first line), scans show the cancer has shrunk or stayed the same, and you have at most 5 remaining spots outside the brain (plus up to 5 in the brain)
  • All remaining tumors can be treated with surgery or radiation (radical treatment)
  • If you could become pregnant, you agree to use two forms of birth control during the study
