Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is over 40 (severe obesity).
  • You have been diagnosed with moderate or severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
  • You are on a breathing machine (invasive mechanical ventilation).
  • You have been on the breathing machine for less than 96 hours.
  • You are not on ECMO, do not have an active air leak in the lungs, and do not have high pressure in the brain.
