Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are in the hospital with acute heart failure and have too much fluid in your body
  • You have a higher risk of not responding to water pills (either because you took them daily for at least 7 days before admission or you didn't lose enough fluid/weight in the first 24 hours despite strong IV water pills)
  • You have clear signs of fluid buildup, like swelling in your legs or belly, a bulging neck vein, or fluid in your lungs seen on a chest X-ray or ultrasound
  • You do NOT have a recent heart attack, very low blood pressure, need for dialysis, or severely abnormal potassium/sodium levels
