Spinal cord stimulation study for ALS hand weakness

Who can take part

  • You have ALS and partial weakness in your fingers or thumb (able to move them but not fully strong)
  • Your hand muscles respond well enough to a mild magnetic pulse (brain stimulation test) and a small electrical pulse (spinal cord stimulation test)
  • You do not use a ventilator (breathing machine) or have a tracheostomy tube
  • You do not have a history of seizures, severe head injury, or certain heart conditions
  • You do not have metal implants in your head, a pacemaker, or other devices that could interfere with stimulation
