Using a blood test to guide antibiotics in aorta surgery

Aortic Aneurysm and DissectionCardiac Valve DiseaseThoracic Aortic AneurysmThoracic Aortic Dissection

Treatments studied

Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial checks if a blood test called presepsin can help doctors decide when to use antibiotics in patients having surgery on the chest's main artery (the thoracic aorta). It is for people with an aneurysm or tear in that artery.

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for surgery on the thoracic aorta (the main artery in your chest).
  • You have been diagnosed with an aneurysm (a bulge) or a dissection (a tear) in the thoracic aorta.
  • Your blood samples must not have hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) that could interfere with the test results.

AI-guided treatment for acute aortic dissection

This trial uses artificial intelligence to help choose the best emergency surgery for people with a sudden tear in the main artery of the body (acute aortic dissection). It aims to improve outcomes by matching the treatment to each patient's specific condition.

NCT07442357Not yet recruiting
Antibiotics before heart valve replacement procedure trial

This trial is for patients getting a new aortic heart valve (TAVI). It tests whether giving antibiotics before the procedure helps prevent infections. If you are getting a TAVI in Denmark, you may be eligible.

NCT03233087Recruiting
Study to predict outcomes in aortic dissection

This study collects medical information and blood-test timing data to learn how to diagnose aortic dissection sooner and predict outcomes. It may help doctors better plan care for people with suspected or confirmed aortic dissection.

NCT05777681Recruiting
Treating infection in the aorta or iliac arteries

This trial studies a surgical product made from animal tissue to treat infections involving the aorta and nearby blood vessels. It may help people whose grafts or weak spots (aneurysms) are infected.

NCT05660733Recruiting
Study of infections of the aorta and large arteries

This trial studies how to care for infections that involve the aorta or other large blood vessels. If you have signs and test results that fit this diagnosis, you may be invited to help researchers better understand the condition and treatments.

NCT07750548Not yet recruiting
Reducing stroke risk after acute aortic dissection surgery

This study tests a special approach during surgery for a type of aortic dissection (a tear in the main artery) to lower the chance of new stroke or brain damage. It aims to improve recovery after emergency heart surgery.
