Who can take part

  • You must be over 18 years old.
  • You must have had heart surgery at least 3 months ago, including a procedure to close the left atrial appendage.
  • You must have a history of atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (an irregular heart rhythm).
  • You should currently be taking a blood thinner (warfarin or a DOAC like apixaban or rivaroxaban).
  • You cannot have a mechanical heart valve or a history of blood clots like a pulmonary embolism.
  • You cannot have severe kidney disease (estimated filtration rate lower than 30).
