Who can take part

  • You had your first stroke within the last 7 days, and it was caused by a more than 50% narrowing in the middle cerebral artery.
  • You are older than 45.
  • You had a special MRI (HR-MRI) of the brain vessels and a full heart workup, including a heart ultrasound.
  • You must not have a significant blockage in the carotid artery (the main neck artery) on the same side as the stroke.
  • You must not have atrial fibrillation, a recent heart attack, an enlarged heart, or other heart-related causes for the stroke.
  • You must not have other causes like autoimmune disease or a clotting condition.
