- You are 18 years or older.
- You are having coronary bypass surgery (with or without a heart-lung machine).

- You are not having emergency surgery.
- You are not on medicine or a machine to keep your blood pressure or heart stable.
- You are not having another heart surgery at the same time, and you are not having a bypass on only one artery.
