Magnetic nanoparticles to treat stroke clots

Who can take part

  • You had an ischemic stroke (a clot blocking blood flow to the brain) and it’s been less than 24 hours since you were last feeling normal.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • A brain scan (CT or MRI) shows a clot in a medium-sized blood vessel in the brain, and no bleeding.
  • You do not have a pacemaker, defibrillator, aneurysm clip, or other metal implant that could be affected by the magnetic field used in the study.
  • You do not have a known allergy to iron, a liver disease like cirrhosis, or a condition called hemochromatosis (too much iron in your body).
