Who can take part
- You have severe diabetic retinopathy (called 'proliferative' PDR) that has caused blindness or eye shrinkage, and you choose to have the eye removed and replaced with an artificial one.
- Or you have severe PDR that needs a surgery called vitrectomy (removing gel inside the eye).
- You cannot have a serious autoimmune disease or cancer.
