Who can take part

  • Your baby has moderate to severe HIE (a type of brain injury from lack of oxygen at birth).
  • Your baby is getting therapeutic hypothermia (cooling therapy) for 72 hours.
  • Your baby was born at 35 weeks of pregnancy or later.
  • Your baby is less than 48 hours old.
  • You are able and willing to provide fresh breast milk for your baby to receive through the nose.
  • Your baby does not have any major birth defects, brain lesions, or need ECMO (a heart-lung machine).
