Who can take part

  • You have had a bleeding stroke caused by high blood pressure (hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage).
  • Your bleeding did not get bigger in the first 12 to 24 hours after coming to the hospital.
  • You have not been on a blood thinner (like warfarin, apixaban, or rivaroxaban) before or on the day you came to the hospital.
  • You did not need surgery for your bleeding stroke before starting the prevention blood thinners.
  • You do not have a known blood clot (like in your leg or lung) when you arrive at the hospital.
  • You survive at least the first 2 days in the hospital, and you do not have active cancer.
