Who can take part

  • You were brought to the emergency room within 24 hours of a head injury.
  • A CT scan shows bleeding or swelling in the brain, with the brain's midline shifted more than 3 millimeters.
  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • Your medical team believes you are likely to survive more than 24 hours after the injury.
  • You will have a ventriculostomy (a tube placed in the brain's fluid-filled spaces) within 24 hours of the injury.
