This study tests how well different types of emergency brain surgery work to relieve dangerous pressure after a severe head injury. If you had the surgery within 24 hours and meet specific brain scan and age criteria, you may be able to join.

Who can take part

  • You must have had a traumatic brain injury and arrived at the ER within 24 hours of the accident.
  • A CT scan must show a brain bleed or other injury that shifts the brain by at least 3 millimeters (about 1/8th of an inch) and other signs of high brain pressure.
  • You must be between 18 and 70 years old.
  • Even if you have other injuries, doctors must expect you to survive more than 24 hours.
  • You must have had a surgery to open the skull and relieve pressure within 24 hours of the injury.
