Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old
  • You are having back surgery to relieve pressure on nerves at one level between L4 and S1 (lower spine)
  • You can attend follow-up visits and understand the study details
  • You do not have allergies to citrate, alginate, hyaluronate, or MRI contrast dye
  • You are not claustrophobic (afraid of enclosed spaces)
  • You have not had prior surgery on the same part of your lower back
