Who can take part

  • You have a spinal cord injury, stroke, or a similar condition that has caused loss of arm function for at least 12 months, OR you have ALS or another progressive disease that will cause severe arm weakness within a year.
  • You are expected to live at least 12 more months.
  • You can communicate verbally or with a computer or communication aid, and can speak English well enough to participate.
  • You have a stable caregiver who can assist you.
  • You do not have conditions like uncontrolled seizures, diabetes, severe obesity, or a weakened immune system that would make surgery risky.
