Who can take part
- You are 18 or older.
- You have a narrowed carotid artery with heavy calcium buildup (at least 3 mm thick) seen on a CT scan.
- You have had a stroke or mini-stroke in the last 6 months, or you have no symptoms but your artery is narrowed by 70% or more.
- You are considered high risk for standard carotid surgery due to age (70+), heart or lung conditions, or previous neck surgery or radiation.
- You do not have other major health issues like recent bleeding in the brain, an irregular heart rhythm that requires blood thinners, or severe kidney failure on dialysis.
