Who can take part

  • You have significant narrowing in your carotid artery (50% if you've had a recent stroke or mini-stroke, or 70% if you haven't had symptoms)
  • Your carotid artery narrowing has heavy calcium buildup, confirmed by CT scan
  • You are considered high-risk for traditional neck surgery due to age, heart/lung problems, prior neck surgery, or anatomy
  • You haven't had a stroke or mini-stroke in the past week, and no major heart problems in the past 72 hours
  • You don't have certain heart rhythm problems, blood clots, or bleeding disorders that would make the procedure unsafe
  • You have at least 1 year of expected life remaining and can follow study instructions
