Who can take part

  • You must have low blood pressure (less than 65 mmHg) or a sudden drop in blood pressure of at least 15 points.
  • You must also have one of these: a fast heart rate (over 120 beats per minute), low urine output for at least two hours, or high blood lactate level.
  • You cannot need urgent surgery or life support like ECMO.
  • You cannot have severe lung failure or severe heart failure (ejection fraction less than 25%).
  • You cannot be on dialysis or have severe anemia (hemoglobin below 8).
  • You cannot be pregnant, have a terminal illness, or have a do-not-resuscitate order.
