- At least one week since amputation, brain injury, stroke, or spinal cord injury
- Stable enough to take part in rehabilitation
- Able to follow a three-step command (like "stand up, walk, and sit down")
- No pacemaker, defibrillator, or other implanted medical device that cannot be turned off
- No active infection, fever, inflammation, cancer, or blood clot
- No epilepsy or seizure in the last 6 months
