Who can take part

  • You are 45 years old or older.
  • Your surgery is scheduled ahead of time (not an emergency) and is considered moderate or high risk for your heart.
  • You will be under general anesthesia and stay in the hospital for at least 24 hours.
  • You have at least two of these conditions: age 75+, high blood pressure, heart disease, past heart failure, stroke, diabetes, poor kidney function, or high NT-proBNP levels.
  • An exercise test showed that your heart rate responds abnormally (too fast or too slow to recover).
