How different ways of drawing blood from a central line compare for heparin activity

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU)
  • You have a central line (a special IV placed in a large vein in the neck, chest, or groin) with at least three ports
  • You are receiving a continuous heparin drip, and your target Anti-Xa level (a test for blood thinning) is between 0.3 and 0.7 IU/ml
  • You are able to give consent or have someone do it for you
